Child Sexual Abuse Prevention

The evil of child sexual abuse is evident and all too present in our world. We can only imagine the anger and sorrow that you must feel when confronted with a young, innocent victim in your practice or facility.

One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused by age 18. You must agree that number is alarming and unacceptable.

The PA Coalition Against Rape through its Vision of Hope campaign is working to protect children from the devastation of sexual abuse. AmeriHealth Caritas is a strong supporter, advocate and partner of the campaign. We challenge you to join us. As medical professionals and adults we do have the power to intervene and protect these children from further devastation. Go to their Web sit at: http://www.theirhope.org/about.htm for information on how you can get involved.

You are a mandatory reporter* as required by law when there is a reason to suspect that a child has been sexually abused.

To make a report

Call ChildLine (1-800-932-0313), a 24-hour toll free telephone reporting system operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare to receive reports of suspected child abuse. ChildLine forwards the report of suspected child abuse to the local county children and youth agency, which investigates the report to determine if the allegations can be substantiated as child abuse/neglect and also arranges for or provides the services that are needed to prevent the further maltreatment of the child and to preserve the family unity.

*Do you have questions about the requirements you have as mandatory reporter?
